In addition to Lyquid’s world-class, athlete-led workouts, we wanted to include a powerful creation tool to let members build their own custom routines. I designed the Lyquid Workout builder to be intuitive for novice fitness enthusiasts but also robust and efficient for experienced gym junkies.
Select from a plethora of movements, configure reps or time, and organize them into blocks to fine-tune your perfect routine.
Start building a routine by adding a set. Pick your preferred weight mode, filter and sort by muscle group, and adjust your set goal.
Much like the rest of the Hydrow App, the Workout Builder uses Liquid Glass to add an extra layer of responsiveness and familiarity.
The Workout Builder is designed with drag-and-drop functionality so organizing your routine feels like second nature. Pick up a movement and drop it wherever you like. You can rearrange movements within a block or move them out to a different block. You can even drag an entire block around to adjust the core structure of your workout.
Those who like to work out with supersets will enjoy that every set and block has a duplicate button. Create the perfect set with a tap and repeat as many times as needed.
For members who want an even more expansive canvas to build a workout, the feature is designed to take advantage of the extra screen real estate on iPad.
While creating this feature, I also considered the styling of movements, blocks, and routines to create a clear visual separation between them. Movements that are grouped in a block have a ‘connective tissue’ between them to signal they are performed in succession.

When sharing a custom routine with your followers, the post features the recognizable block design peeking out from the workout thumbnail. The creator’s profile picture is layered on top, adding a personal touch to their routine.
Another aspect that makes the Workout Builder so powerful is its sharing capabilities. You can share any custom routine to your followers or via a link. Other members can add the workout to their libraries for their own use.
Want to tweak someone’s custom routine? No problem. You can duplicate another user’s Custom Routine and make edits for yourself. Members can even see the total cumulative weight lifted from everyone who completed the Routine.

I’ve always wanted to design a feature that provides the tools to let users create their own work. Getting to design the Workout Builder fulfills just that. I was especially excited for this project, and I can’t wait to try the workouts our members create.
